Found at a market in Paris, we are pleased to offer this delightful antique French Carved Wooden Box. Featuring intricate, expertly hand-carved designs, the box artfully showcases the renowned wood carving skills from the Forêt Noire or Black Forest region of France and Germany.
Crafted in great detail, we are particularly taken by the intricate woodworking of this piece. Originally serving as a tobacco box, the top is decorated with two crisscrossed pipes exuding smoke and a stylized tobacco bundle, all tied together with a flowing ribbon. The top is further complemented with two buckled strap details, seemingly holding the box closed. The intricately carved sides feature stylized carved leaves.
